Cycling to work is an easy way to stay healthy by working out on your commute. You also get to see the City, try different routes and avoid delays on your journey. So, cycling could save you time as well as money – find out how much you could save using Halfords’ Cyculator tool.

Regular exercise can:

  • Boost your mental health
  • Reduce stress
  • Improve your mood, productivity and sleep quality
  • Keep you fit

Cycling to work is great for you and for London as with more people cycling, there’s less emissions from cars, vans and buses and more space on public transport.

How does the scheme work?

Cycle to Work is a government initiative which gives you a cost-effective way to get new cycling equipment.

If your employer is participating in the scheme, they arrange for a salary sacrifice so you don’t have to pay tax or national insurance on your cycle and equipment.

You’ll save between 32-42% and this reduced cost is then deducted from your payslip and spread out over 12, 18 or 36 months as part of your hire agreement. Check to see how much you could save with Halfords’ calculator.

At the end of your hire agreement, your provider will get in touch to explain all your options and ensure you make the best savings possible.

What cycle equipment can I get?

Most providers allow you to choose any adult cycle within your company’s maximum price limit. Find the right cycle for you and choose from electric, folding, hybrid, road and many more.

Already own a cycle? You can still take advantage of the scheme and upgrade safety accessories like locks, lights, clothing and helmets. Or if you’re looking to buy yourself a second cycle, you can also use the scheme.
