Film spotlight: All of Us Strangers

There’s no better feeling than when you’re watching a movie and you recognise the location of a specific scene. 👀 🎬

We might be biased, but we get particularly excited when it’s a scene shot on the London Underground. “I’ve been there!”, “I’ve been on that platform”, or even “they should be standing on the right” you might exclaim as you watch any number of films that have been shot on the network.

What is the film about?

All Of Us Strangers, directed by Andrew Haigh is the latest film released with some very recognisable London locations featured.

One night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, Adam (Andrew Scott) has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbour, Harry (Paul Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up, and the childhood home where his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell), appear to be living, just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.

When Adam (Scott) and Harry (Mescal) head out to enjoy London nightlife, they do so on the Tube! A familiar experience for many Londoners.

Shot at one of our exclusive locations in Bank station on the Waterloo & City line, the team even had a live train to use as part of the scenes.

A lot of hard work goes in to filming scenes in our exclusive areas to ensure it mirrors the real environment. So much so, it even has the cast reminiscing about their time actually spent on the London Underground!

“Any filming or photography project we shoot on the network, the team strives to make sure our locations tell a story as authentically as possible. Whether we’re supporting teams to recreate poster adverts on platforms and even securing a live train to film with like we did for All of Us Strangers. It’s always exciting to see how these scenes look on the big screen and watch how Londoners particularly react to seeing these familiar spaces in films they love.” – Kate Reston, TfL Film Office Manager
